The Crewkerne facility has been manufacturing precision-moulded components using Bulk Moulding Compound (BMC) since the 1950s building deep expertise in handling this versatile and high-performance material.

 

Navigating Industry Change

In March of this year, we were informed by Industrial Dielectrics Inc. (IDI), our primary supplier of BMC, that they would be shutting down their UK manufacturing plant. This announcement marked a significant shift for the UK BMC supply chain, as several grades traditionally produced domestically would be transferred to IDI’s French facility.

For many businesses, such a disruption could have led to significant delays or uncertainty. At Talisman, however, we moved quickly and strategically to protect our customers’ supply and ensure a smooth transition.

 

Going Above and Beyond for Our Customers

Immediately following the announcement, our team:

• Communicated transparently with all affected customers, providing early visibility and guidance.
• Secured commitments from IDI’s French facility to continue supplying all required BMC grades.
• Collaborated to place advanced orders with the UK plant, ensuring sufficient buffer stock during the transition period.
• Agreed to hold extra inventory of raw materials where needed, to support customers’ ongoing operations.

This proactive approach required quick decision-making, strong supplier coordination, and a readiness to take on additional logistical and inventory responsibilities, all to ensure uninterrupted service and peace of mind for our customers.
